Q & A
Q: Why do you need my email address?
A: The email you register with becomes the unique identifier for your records. Please be sure to enter the same email when applying for all retreats you register for, making payments, and communicating with us. This is especially important if you have registered with us before. If your email has changed since the last time you registered with us, please let us know so we may update your records.
Q: Can I register more than one retreatant with the same email?
A: No, each applicant must use a different email. If you are registering for more than one person (spouse, friend, etc.) each application must have a different email address and fill out a separate application. Using the same email for more than one application will override and cancel out the first application.
Q: How do I apply for a retreat?
A: Click on the retreat tab, find the date you would like to attend and click on it. This will bring you to the registration form or wait list if the date is full. Note: Be sure to fill in all information with a red * and do not use an $ when making your payment.
Q: Am I able to register for a private retreat without direction?
A: Private retreats must be scheduled when a retreat is already scheduled and are subject to availability. You may fill out the application/wait list application. Be sure to note on the application that you are seeking a private retreat.
Q: Can you accommodate couples?
A: We are a 38 single bedroom retreat house and do not have the ability to accommodate couples in one bedroom. Each of you would need to separately apply for a retreat. Note: Applicants must use separate emails when applying for a retreat, as your email is the unique identifier in our database system. Not doing so will result in only one application being registered for the retreat, as the second application filled out will override the first.
Q: Are meals included/What if I have dietary issues?
A: The kitchen staff can make mealtime accommodations only for the specific twelve documented allergens listed on the EPRH retreat application form: Eggs, Fish, Gluten, Milk, Mustard, Peanuts, Sesame, Shellfish, Soy, Sulfites, Tree nuts and Wheat (in addition to vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian needs). They are not able to accommodate additional personal preferences. If you have such preferences, you are welcome to bring any food you may need/want for your time with us. We have a designated refrigerator for retreatants use only. If you have noted any of the twelve allergens on your application form, please see the chef upon arrival to discuss your plan for meals during your stay. The staff will be able to assist you only after you have spoken to them. Breakfast is served from 6:30 am, lunch at 12 noon, and dinner at 6:00 pm. Snacks, coffee, fruit juices and filtered water are available in the dining room at any time of the day and night. Q: When is the arrival and depart time for retreats?
A: Arrival time is between 2pm and 5pm for all retreats. Departure time for 8-day, 7-day, and 6-day retreat is on the last day of the retreat after 8:30am mass. 5-day and shorter retreats (guided and weekends) end after 11:30 am mass.
Q: When is my payment due?
A: Initial deposits are due at time of registration. Your final balance payment is due 30 days prior to your arrival date. You will receive a final payment due email reminder with the information you need to make your payment approximately two weeks prior to the due date.
Q: What is your refund policy?
A: A deposit is required to secure your retreat dates. (Note: Deposits are non-refundable/non-transferable.) However, we understand that situations arise that may result in the need to cancel a reservation. If a cancellation is made 10 days prior to the start of the retreat, we will refund any remaining balance that you have already paid beyond your deposit on the condition that we can fill your reserved room with a retreatant off our waitlist. If we are unable to do so, any balance that you have paid will be recorded as a tax-deductible gift to Eastern Point Retreat House. (Also note: our rates are flat rates; late arrival and early departures are not eligible for any discounts.)
Q: I am on your wait list. When will I know if I have been accepted to the retreat?
A: As space becomes available, we will reach out (in chronological order), to the 1st person on the wait list. If we do not hear back from you within 24 hrs., we will move onto the next person on the list.
Q: When I click on a date, I am not brought to the application page.
A: If there is no link attached, we are no longer taking applications for this date.
Q: Your system is not accepting my credit card payment.
A: When entering your payment do not use the $. Use numeric input only. Example: 250.00 not $250.00.
Q: I can’t find my confirmation number to make a payment.
A: If you go to the payment page where you are asked for your confirmation number there is a link that you can click to have your confirmation number sent to you.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Comfortable and casual clothing and footwear is appropriate throughout your time here. You will have no need for formal attire or even business casual attire during the days of the retreat, although you may certainly dress as formally as you like! Weather on the coast is always variable, no matter the season of the year. We recommend bringing layers for both warm days and cool evenings. Sturdy walking shoes, a hat or sun-visor and a raincoat are potential necessities for your outside movement. Bathing suits and beach footwear are most appropriate if visiting the nearby (and walkable) beaches during our summer retreats.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Although a Bible is provided in each retreatant’s room, you may want to bring your personal Bible. Other suggested items include personal toiletries (including sunscreen and bug repellant), a water bottle, journal, pens/pencils, and a flashlight. Art supplies and jigsaw puzzles are available for general recreational use. EPRH maintains a small general-use library that contains primarily spiritual, scriptural, and theological texts, several magazines/journals, and the daily newspaper. (We are a short drive, and a healthy walk, from a local market and pharmacy, should the need arise to make purchases during the retreat.) One year, a retreatant brought a bicycle and allowed others to use it except during the one hour each day he reserved it for himself. Such gestures are always appreciated.
Q: What are the rooms like?
A: The bedrooms are simple yet sufficient — a bed (linens and towels are provided), a writing table and chair, an enclosed private bathroom, a small closet, ceiling fan, baseboard heating units and, as noted, a Bible. With rare exception, all rooms face the ocean, and most rooms open out onto a private deck/patio. A few rooms are designed to accommodate ADA compliant needs. If you have such needs, please let us know.
Q: What is your Smoking Policy
A: We follow a strict no-smoking policy in all building interior spaces and encourage those smoking to do so on the grounds at a distance from the building.
Q: Cell Phone/Zoom Call Policy
A: We believe a silent atmosphere is important for achieving the purpose of a spiritual retreat. Guests are, therefore, asked to silence their cell phones and other electronic devices during the retreat and to restrict their use to emergencies only, away from other retreatants. We often recommend “calls” occur in your parked car if that is possible. Because “private” space in the house is limited to personal bedrooms, spiritual direction rooms and staff offices, we cannot guarantee convenient access to a dedicated space that would allow you participate in such calls so as not to disturb others.
Q: Physical Exercise Options
A: EPRH does not have any public facilities. Day passes may be available for the local YMCA.
